Wie Are Sick of You
Apparently we can all take lessons from Michelle Wie on not only how to correctly swing a driver, but how to dig into peoples emotions, making them feel sorry for you even after playing a couple bad rounds.
During her second round on Friday at the John Deere Classic, Wie was only able to complete the first nine holes where she shot two over par. Fridays round started off fine, but quickly turned sickening for Wie. After teeing off on numerous occasions, she would walk over to the tall grass, while holding her stomach, looking as if she had to vomit. She also took breaks sitting down on her bag and drinking water; none of which worked. By the end of the ninth hole, she decided to throw in the towel and withdrew from the tournament. Wie was taken off the course in an ambulance and treated for heat exhaustion.
I sure hope I’m not the only one that’s sick of Wie. If anything happens to her, the press is all over it. Obviously she doesn’t know how to keep properly hydrated in hot weather. Hey Wie, have you ever heard of drinking water? Yeah, it’s what 75% of your body is made up of. You take one of those weird inventions called a “water bottle” and fill it up with water so you can take it with you as you play. Oh and just because you have a water bottle with you doesn’t mean you can just keep it there to look at. You actually have to drink the water out of the bottle.
Of course every time she would walk over to the side to throw up, she never actually would. I kid you not, this happened quite a few times. All you would hear from whoever was doing the commentary on the game was how shes “such a fighter” and “she looks so sick yet she continues to push on and play the game she loves”. That makes ME sick. I don’t know if anyone else caught it, but as she was being put on the ambulance she had a smile on her face. She was probably thinking, “Ha. I’m 8 over par after a bad round an a half and I’m still getting all the attention. I get all the prime treatment along with sympathy from everyone.”
Wie, if you’re going to play then play. Don’t punk out and blame it on heat exhaustion. Every other professional golfer seems to be able to drink enough water to keep hydrated. At only 150lbs, you don’t have to drink anywhere near as much water as someone like John Daly who weighs in at 220lbs. I don’t recall Daly ever being carried off the course in an ambulance. Keep hydrated and all will be well.
On a lighter note, BeginnerGolfing turns one year old today. Thanks to all my readers and to everyone that supports the site!

Ya wanna talk tough? Talk Ken Venturi man. He finished, somehow. I think it’s a cop out for Wie. Any bonehead knows you have to hydrate long before the round. And she’s not exactly in bad condition and for hell’s sake she’s 16. The heat is much more tough on a guy who is 35-45 years old and has a few extra lbs.

Happy Birthday!
I agree with the guru - cop out for Wie.
I’ll be up in Wisconsin (Wauwatosa) August 4th thru the 9th to visit family. I’ll be playing Senic View in Slinger for sure, possibly one more round somewhere else. Any suggestions?
Daly 220lbs??? That seems off a bit

Tony — Yeah she’s a total cop out. Being 16, she’s probably in the best condition of her life. She also comes from Hawaii…isn’t it always hot there? I could be wrong, but I don’t necessarily think they have weather like Alaska over in Hawaii…
Greg — Thanks for the birthday wishes. Make sure you check you’re email for courses to play around here and at least try to play more than two rounds if you’re going to be up here for SIX days ;). By the way, I grabbed Daly’s weight off espn.com. Don’t blame me if he lies about his weight hehe.

Alexander — I actually already ordered one. I emailed the company and told them I’d review the putter for them and tried to get one for free, but they said there were licensing fees and stuff so they said I could buy it at cost. So I did :).
